New Product: Synthetic Aperture Color Finesse v3.0, Now With Adobe CS5 Support

SYNTHETIC APERTURE NOW SHIPPING COLOR FINESSE 3.0 Enhancements Include 64-bit Adobe CS5 and Apple FxPlug Support

color finesseSAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — August 23, 2010 — Synthetic Aperture announces that Color Finesse 3.0, a new version of their color correction plug-in for Adobe After Effects and Apple Final Cut Pro, is now available for immediate purchase.

Enhanced Application Support
Version 3.0 adds a 64-bit plug-in to support Adobe’s CS5 64-bit applications, in addition to the 32-bit version. The move to 64-bit addressing significantly reduces the possibility of out-of-memory errors occurring during effects rendering. Tests with real-world projects which could not be rendered in 32-bit mode work flawlessly and speedily with the 64-bit plug-in and applications. Color Finesse 3.0 also adds a native FxPlug-style plug-in to support Apple Final Cut Pro, Final Cut Express, and Motion. By virtue of being an FxPlug, performance is enhanced and pixel format conversions are reduced.

New Features in Color Finesse 3.0 Color Finesse 3.0 adds the following new features:
  • New Auto-Color and Auto-Exposure buttons give one-click access to the starting point for your creative grade.
  • A new Vibrance control gives more refined control over image saturation. The Vibrance control is similar to that found in Adobe Lightroom.
  • New HSL curves let you control image saturation and lightness based on color hue.
  • A new Highlight Recovery tool provides a visually-pleasing way to recover overbright areas of the image which would normally be clipped.
  • Color Finesse can now export its color correction settings as a 3D LUT in a variety of formats, including Autodesk Lustre and Smoke, Academy LUT, Assimilate Scratch, Pogle, Truelight, Cine-tal, and LUTher.
  • The Color Finesse preview displays now automatically adjust to footage pixel aspect ratio, giving you a correctly formatted preview when working with anamorphic footage.
  • The Vectorscope has been enhanced with a zoom capability, making it easier to see detail when white and black balancing.
  • Color Finesse now supports the Tangent Wave control surface, in addition to the company’s own Colorociter surface.
Compatibility
Color Finesse 3.0 is compatible with both Intel- and PowerPC-based Macintosh systems, running Mac OS X 10.5 and later. For Windows users, Color Finesse 3.0 is compatible with Windows XP, Vista 32/64, and Windows 7 32/64. Color Finesse 3.0 supports Adobe After Effects 7.0 and CS3 through CS5, Premiere Pro CS3 through CS5, Final Cut Pro 6 and 7, and Motion 4.0.

New: Boris Continuum Complete 7 AVX Now Available

Over 200 comprehensive filters for Avid editing and finishing systems

Marlborough MA - August 24, 2010 - Boris FX, the leading developer of integrated effects technology for video and film, today announced that Boris Continuum Complete 7 AVX (BCC 7 AVX) is now available. BCC 7 AVX brings over 200 filters to Avid Media Composer and Avid Symphony. The new release features lens blur effects, a video noise reduction tool, a new OpenGL particle engine, and new on-screen overlay control widgets for streamlined workflow.

"Boris Continuum Complete 7 AVX introduces highly sought-after lens blur effects as well as a new OpenGL particle engine," commented Boris Yamnitsky, president and founder, Boris FX. "The release is also packed with new productivity tools such as Compare Mode for comparing the filtered result with the unfiltered source and on-screen overlay control widgets that allow parameter adjustments while the editor’s eye remains focused on the image."

Boris Continuum Complete 7 AVX New Feature Highlights
  • New Filters:
    • BCC Noise Reduction smoothes out video noise using spatial and temporal information derived from the video clip - especially in dark areas of an image.
    • BCC Lens Blur emulates a popular lens blur or rack defocus effect where out-of-focus highlights of an image clip take on the shape of the lens shutter. The filter includes a gradient map layer to control the depth of focus.
    • BCC Lens Shape is a designer effect similar to a rack defocus effect where the shape of the bokeh can be imported from an external layer.
    • BCC Lens Transition is a wipe filter that applies a lens blur or rack defocus effect to the specular highlights of outgoing and incoming image clips.
    • BCC Particle Array 3D creates a grid of particles oriented in 3D space.
    • BCC Pin Art 3D creates a pin board look based on a layer image.
  • Compare Mode. Added to over one-third of BCC 7 AVX's filters, Compare Mode is a convenient tool that enables users to compare the filtered result with the unfiltered source via either a side-by-side view or a live split-screen view. In the side-by-side view, users can view the unfiltered and filtered image result in the preview window as changes are made to the image. In the split-screen view, users can drag the wipe bar anywhere across the image to compare the filtered result with the unfiltered source at any zoom level. Additionally, the Compare Mode feature includes the unique ability to view the filtered result with a live filtered layer in the timeline.
  • On-Screen Overlay Control Widgets. The most commonly-used parameters in each BCC filter are now accessible via Avid-native on-screen overlay widgets, each with dynamic parameter value displays that update automatically as the widget is adjusted. Color-coded and easy to use, the new widgets allow parameter adjustments while the editor’s eye remains focused on the image. Overlays can be turned on and off by Avid’s built-in overlay control.
  • Performance Gains. The new BCC Pin Art 3D and BCC Particle Array 3D filters integrate a new particle engine that is OpenGL-accelerated. All BCC 7 AVX filters take advantage of either multi-processing or OpenGL hardware acceleration to deliver an interactive effects design experience.
  • Boris AAF Transfer Support. BCC 7 AVX is supported by Boris AAF Transfer, a new plug-in that facilitates seamless transfer of Final Cut Pro sequences with BCC 7 FxPlug filters to Avid Media Composer. BCC 7 FxPlug filters are translated to corresponding BCC 7 AVX filters - including all of the keyframed changes.

Pricing and Availability
Boris Continuum Complete 7 AVX is available immediately through the Boris FX worldwide reseller channel and direct through the Boris FX web site at www.borisfx.com for an MSRP of $1,995 USD. Owners of previous versions of BCC AVX may upgrade for an MSRP of $599 USD. A separate BCC 7 AVX for Avid DS release is planned for later this year. Free trial.

Press Release/New Product: proDAD Mercalli v2 Video Stabilization Products with Rolling Shutter Correction Technology

prodad mercalliPRODAD UNVEILS REVOLUTIONARY NEW MERCALLI V2 VIDEO STABILIZATION PRODUCTS WITH ROLLING SHUTTER CORRECTION TECHNOLOGY

New Mercalli V2 Products Feature Exclusive New 3D Video Stabilization with Automatic Rolling Shutter Correction, Support for Windows & Macintosh NLEs.

Immendingen Germany/Silicon Valley, CA, August 17, 2010 – proDAD, a world-class developer of digital video effects plug-ins and image optimization technologies for professional video editors and broadcast professionals as well as aspiring pros today announced two new products based on the Mercalli V2 technology platform. Mercalli V2, first demonstrated at the 2010 NAB show in April, has been radically re-designed with new industry-leading 3D (X, Y, and Z camera axis) video stabilization and highly effective automatic rolling-shutter compensation technology and is hands-down the most effective post-capture video stabilization and optimization solution available. The two new Mercalli products include:
  • Mercalli Pro – Seamless plug-In version of Mercalli for popular Macintosh and Windows NLEs from Adobe, Apple, Magix, Sony, and Thomson Grass Valley, allowing stabilization and rolling-shutter corrections of video right on the timeline with full 32/64-bit NLE support. Mercalli Pro also includes the Mercalli Stand Alone (SAL) application ;
  • Mercalli Stand Alone (SAL) – Stand-alone Mercalli video stabilization and rolling-shutter compensation application for Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP with the same core technology included in Mercalli Pro, with advanced visualizations not possible in a plug-in solution.
Mercalli Pro & SAL both offer highly effective rescue of shaky video in post production/editing thanks to brand-new 3D (X, Y, and Z camera axis) stabilization technology which is an order of magnitude improvement over current stabilization technologies currently available in the market. Because 3D stabilization is so effective, a unique “Dynamic Camera” mode feature allows very precise control of the stabilization to retain the video’s character. Both versions incorporate exclusive SmartBorder™ options which significantly reduce the need to zoom-in like other solutions, keeping the video borders intact. Also new in Mercalli Pro & SAL is highly effective rolling-shutter compensation. Rolling-shutter is distortion of the video introduced by many CMOS digital cameras/camcorders, giving the appearance of wobble, Jello, or skew towards the bottom of the frame when the camera is panned quickly. Both versions can render stabilized HD or SD video in real time.

“Mercalli took the market by storm when it was launched in 2008” said Andreas Huber, Managing Director of proDAD. “The video editing community needed an effective, affordable way to rescue shaky video post-capture and proDAD answered with Mercalli. Now we’re upping the ante again with Mercalli Pro & SAL with its game-changing 3D video stabilization, SmartBorder options, rolling-shutter compensation, and support for the Macintosh platform” Mr. Huber added.

proDAD’s Mercalli provides an elegant solution to the common problem of shaky video shot in the field where it’s not always possible to use a tripod or monopod to capture a scene, and flat-out impossible for helmet or vehicle mounted action cameras and mobile devices. Mercalli differs from other post-production video stabilization tools as it does not require the user to struggle with baffling mathematical theory in determining the most appropriate settings to correct shaky video. The user simply selects the video to be stabilized on the timeline within the NLE software, selects a “de-shake” profile for correction, and Mercalli does the rest. The user can see the effects in real-time for HD or SD video, even make fine tuning adjustments on the fly.

About ZBrush v4/What's New

Pixologic has achieved another breakthrough with the release of ZBrush 4. It sets a new standard for digital art software, changing the way artists create by introducing a brand new suite of sculpting features and expanding on the directions established by the innovations of the existing ZBrush toolset.

Scott Spencer Designer at Weta Workshop says:

"ZBrush 4 leaves me speechless. The breadth of new features and functionality has blown away any notions of what is possible in this program. My mind is still catching up to the possibilities!"

Artists can explore new ways to create sculpture ready meshes with Shadow Box, refine hard surface edges with the new Clip Brushes and manage complex multi-part models with new SubTool features.

With the new Project All features, ZBrush 4 lets you combine multiple SubTools into one and use the new MatchMaker Brush to fit parts perfectly together - the possibilities are endless!

Stay in ZBrush more than ever before!

ZBrush 4 offers the freedom to explore and create; to take art from concept to final production asset without the need to leave the ZBrush environment. The flexible toolset is designed to fit artist and professional needs and the working pipeline.

"ZBrush has become a game changer for those like me, who have continually relied on external modeling programs for things such as hard surface modeling. I can finally see myself generating full character and prop content exclusively in ZBrush and that is a great thing indeed." Trevor 'Lukavi' Hennington - Character Modeler Supervisor

With Version 4, ZBrush users can combine hard surface and organic modeling tools or techniques to create fantastic creatures, superheroes, vehicles, environments and more! With the new Spotlight feature, it becomes even easier to texture and deform any sculpt in edit mode. Spotlight will also allow any or all textures to be manipulated in the ZBrush workspace. Spotlight will adjust the texture, scale, hue, color change, tiling in vertical or horizontal, nudge and much more.

Get eliminates much of the time and expense of logging every word (transcribing), saving thousands of productivity dollars on every project. It will even change the way you think about organizing your content. By bypassing manual and often highly error-prone processes, you can concentrate on storytelling, without the need to worry about the more mundane housekeeping tasks associated with a typical editing project.

AV3's "get" leverages Nexidia's patented phonetic indexing and search process so that all of the rich media in your library can be quickly indexed to make it searchable. This phonetic approach is dictionary-independent, producing the most accurate representation possible of the true spoken content. Even searching non-standard words such as people and place names or product mentions is very intuitive and provides accurate results.

"get" is fast and works at 60 x real-time; equating to indexing an hour of media in 60 seconds!

Review: Digieffects Damage v2 at ProVideo Coalition

damage"We've entered a new world with Adobe's CS5. Being 64-bit only, companies have had to catch up with Adobe by getting their plug-ins 64-bit ready for After Effects CS5. Digieffects was one of those companies quick out of the starting gate by not only getting FreeForm included in After Effects CS5 for free (which is awesome, by the way), but also by getting five of their main plug-ins, Aged Film, Atmosphere, Camera Mapper, Damage v2 and Falloff Lighting, 64-bit ready, and ready for you to download and use right now.

For my first Digieffects review, I'm going to be taking a look at Digieffects Damage v2, and seeing if i's worth spending your hard earned money on."

New Support for Adobe CS5 and 64-bit Operating Systems, 30+ New Filters

Marlborough MA - June 2, 2010 - Boris FX, the leading developer of integrated effects technology for video and film, today announced Boris RED Version 5. Boris RED is an integrated 3D compositing, titling, and effects application designed for Adobe, Apple, Avid, Grass Valley, Media 100, and Sony video editing software. Boris RED 5 introduces support for 64-bit applications such as Adobe CS5 and Sony Vegas 9, adds 30+ new filters, and provides a score of new user interface and workflow enhancements including ergonomic panels, a curve editor, and a spreadsheet-style keyframe editor window.

"Boris RED Version 5 brings RED’s award-wining 3D compositing, titling, and effects capabilities to 64-bit video editing applications," commented Boris Yamnitsky, president and founder, Boris FX. "30+ new filters cover many common post-production tasks including 3-way color grading, the ability to uprez SD video to HD, video noise reduction, and a range of image restoration tools."

Boris RED 5 New Feature Highlights

  • New Support for 64-bit Video Editing Applications. Boris RED 5 will support Adobe CS5, CS4, and CS3 under 64-bit and 32-bit Macintosh and Windows operating systems and Sony Vegas 9 under 64-bit and 32-bit Windows operating systems.
  • 3 Way Color Grade Filter provides a professional color grading process complete with three custom color wheels for pedestal/gamma/gain adjustment.
  • New Noise Reduction Filter smooths out video noise using spatial and temporal information derived from the video clip - especially in dark areas of an image.
  • New UpRez Filter for high-quality SD to HD conversions, facilitating the resizing of image clips while minimizing the data loss that is usually associated with resizing media in a host application. The UpRez filter includes several high-end image processing algorithms to enhance the sharpness and smoothness of the final result.
  • New Pixel Fixer Filter removes bad pixels resulting from a faulty digital camera sensor or dust on a camera lens. Up to 10 bad spots can be repaired with a single filter application - without any degradation of image quality or sharpness.
  • New DV Fixer Filter softens or removes diagonal stair-step lines from a clip captured with a lower-quality camera - without degrading image sharpness or quality.
  • New Smooth Tone Filter smooths or softens an image while preserving detail contrast, making skin tones silky-smooth without loss of sharpness in the image.
  • New Lens Blur Filter emulates a popular lens blur or rack defocus effect where out-of-focus highlights of an image clip take on the shape of the lens shutter.
  • New MatchMove Filter allows users to combine motion tracking with transformation and compositing of a layer. Users can lock the movement of one image clip to another image clip using Boris RED’s built-in motion tracking capability.
  • New LED Filter makes an image, clip, or text element with alpha appear as though it was constructed out of an array of blinking or solid LED lights.
  • New Prism Filter simulates the photographic effect of chromatic aberration in which a bad lens generates prismatic color fringing along edges of high contrast within the image.
  • New Scan Lines Filter generates rolling RGB scanlines over the source image clip, emulating the effect of a computer monitor which was shot on video tape or film. The filter also includes a user-controlled noise generator function for added realism.
  • New Damaged TV Filter emulates the appearance of a CRT-style television that is receiving a bad antenna signal or is in need of repair - complete with gun offset, distorted edges, image roll, noise, scan lines, and interference lines.
  • New Turbulence Filter generates auto-animated gel-like distortion fields in an image clip based on input from the built-in noise map and turbulence controls.
  • Other New Filters include Lens Shape, Warp, Morph, Video Morph, Pencil Sketch
  • Charcoal Sketch, Cartoon Look, Water Color, Tile Mosaic, Lightning, and Color Choker.
  • User Interface and Workflow Enhancements include drag-and-drop panels, a curve editor for smooth parameter animation, and a spreadsheet-style keyframe editor window.

Kronos 5.0 – Hollywood quality realtime retiming

The Foundry Kronos 5.0 is a new accelerated retimer and motion blur plug-in set based on The Foundry’s Academy Award Winning Furnace algorithms.

Kronos 5.0 is the first product to be accelerated by The Foundry's new 'Blink' technology, dramatically speeding up render times and taking retiming to a whole new level. BlinkTM runs our software on CPUs and GPUs allowing the extraction of peak performance from your hardware.

Kronos 5.0 produces far superior results by creating brand new frames using optical flow information, avoiding the poor quality output usually encountered when repeating frames such as blurring and stuttering. Clever maths is employed to look at every pixel on each frame, and see where it moves on to the next. By comparing the two it can make a very good guess at what would come in-between allowing the creation of additional frames and a super smooth slow motion result.

The Foundry Kronos v5.0 for After Effects Node-Locked $100.00/ TF Price: $95.00

The Foundry Kronos v5.0 for After Effects Floating $150.00/ TF Price: $143.00

The Foundry CameraTracker for After Effects Render-Only $50.00/ TF Price: $48.00

"These new 64-bit plug-ins from The Foundry will help artists who use Adobe After Effects CS5 to create high-impact motion graphics and handle the trickiest compositing tasks more easily," said Michael Coleman, senior product manager for Adobe After Effects at Adobe.

Jack Binks, Plug-ins' Product Manager at The Foundry, comments: "We are really excited to bring these new tools to the After Effects platform and can't wait to see how artists employ their power and flexibility. We look forward to seeing the results."

Tutorials/Examples: Working with The Foundry's New Kronos and Camera Tracker Plug-ins

foundryThe Foundry is set to release their new plugins Kronos and Camera Tracker shortly. Here are a few new examples and tutorials to whet your appetite!

The Foundry Kronos

Retiming is useful when you have to make something fit an allotted time segment, or want to creatively move in "super slow-mo". Repeating frames results in very poor quality output with blurring and stuttering, and other motion vector techniques can be very slow to render. KRONOS produces far superior results by creating brand new frames using optical flow motion estimation, and at incredibly high speed thanks to its ability to utilise your NVidia GPU for offloading processing.
