GridIron Flow Visual Workflow Manager Now Shipping

Gridiron logoHighly anticipated application for creative professionals has new features for workgroups and direct access from Adobe Creative Suite 4

OTTAWA, Ontario, June 29, 2009 - GridIron Software, the leading provider of workflow and performance tools for creative professionals, today announced that GridIron Flow, the first-of-its-kind visual workflow manager, is now shipping and available for immediate purchase. GridIron Flow gives creative professionals and workgroups the ability to see, access, and share all their project files in one simple, elegant interface. The product, which has been lauded by industry influencers and beta users as a "must have" productivity application, now includes even more features.

"We’ve waited a long time for this day, but the final product was worth the wait," said Steve Forde, CEO of GridIron. "Thanks to a world-class development team and the thousands of beta testers who not only thoroughly tested the software but helped shape the final version, Flow is a product that will help all creative pros, whether they work alone or as part of a group, become more streamlined and productive. No more lost files, no more accidents, no more all-nighters."

GridIron Flow has been used by thousands of creative professionals since the public beta of the product was released in February 18, 2009. Users have experienced how the software provides a unique and total understanding of each project being worked on and allows them to track all the components of a project, regardless of where the files are located. With instant access to any file or version needed, creative professionals can get a lot more done in a lot less time—without having to do anything differently.

The shipping product also debuts several new features that further expand the power of Flow. Share Maps allows groups of creative professionals using multiple computers to view the same workflow map across the network, no matter where files are stored or who created them. Another new feature, Adobe Creative Suite 4 Flow Flash Panel, provides users access to Flow directly from Adobe CS4 applications, offering yet another way to streamline the creative process.

"The ability for Flow to be accessed directly within Adobe CS4 applications via the new Flash Panel is impressive because of the value it brings users," said Johnny Loiacono, senior vice president and general manager, Creative Solutions Business Unit, Adobe Systems. "CS4 already delivers significant increases in productivity and Flow takes that to an even higher level. It is a product that most of our Creative Suite customers will find valuable."

Key features of the product include:
  • Workflow Maps - Visual interface shows all project files and how they are connected
  • Share Maps - Allows multiple users to view the same workflow map across the network
  • Adobe CS4 Flow Flash Panel Provides access to GridIron Flow directly in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign or Flash
  • Real-time Asset Tracking - Tracks the connections between project files in real-time
  • Visual Versioning - Accesses the complete history of a file and allows the user to revert to any version
  • Visual Search - Finds any file, even if it's offline, and shows how it fits into a project
  • Foolproof Packaging - Gathers and updates all files automatically, keeping the package current
  • Time Tracking - Automatically records how much time was spent on a file or project

"We have many creative pros, working on multiple projects at any given time within Ogilvy Group UK, on a variety of different platforms and for a host of clients. From a production POV, I am always looking for technology that will improve productivity and make output more efficient," said Neil Evely, Chief Technology Officer, RedWorks Broadcast. "We were blown away when we saw GridIron Flow - it is an ideal addition to our software portfolio and is the perfect fit for our new Broadcast hub. Plus, the fact that it requires virtually no training to use means the company can start reaping the benefits immediately."

Review: More Grunt with CoreMelt

Oliver Peters, using the word grunt in a positive light, has a nice writeup on CoreMelt v2 on his blog Digital Films:

I won't go into depth on the whole set, because it's something that's easy enough to check out for yourself. These filters seem to have a low system impact - in other words, safe to try. On the whole, CoreMelt V2 is a great addition to the editor's toolkit at a really low price.

Stu Maschwitz Joins Red Giant Software as Creative Director

Stu MaschwitzSan Francisco, CA, June 23, 2009 - Red Giant Software is proud to announce that Stu Maschwitz is now the new Creative Director for Magic Bullet products. Stu Maschwitz is the original creator of the Magic Bullet Suite of plug-ins.

"In my directing work, on projects big and small, I'm always finding ways that the filmmaking process can be made more efficient, more fun, and more accessible to all budget levels. Over the years I've enjoyed a great relationship with Red Giant Software, who have taken these ideas and turned them into tools that the world can enjoy. It's great to make that relationship official," said Stu Maschwitz.

"The Magic Bullet vision is to create software that gives any production, regardless of budget, the look of a high-end feature film. We are immensely pleased that Stu is dedicating his time and vision to enhance and grow the Magic Bullet tools in 2009 and beyond. He has already begun to work on new Magic Bullet products, and you will see many new and updated tools coming later this year," said Sean Safreed, Co-Founder and Director of Products at Red Giant Software.

About Magic Bullet In 2000, Stu Maschwitz created the Magic Bullet Suite, a set of After Effects plug-ins that allowed users to create film-like output from any video source. Prior to 2007, The Orphanage owned the intellectual property behind Magic Bullet, but the product was published and managed by Red Giant Software. Red Giant Software purchased Magic Bullet from The Orphanage in late 2006. Post-acquisition, Red Giant Software developed the Magic Bullet Colorista and Magic Bullet Looks color tools, which are among the most widely used color correction and enhancements tools on the market. Hundreds of thousands of users rely on Magic Bullet tools to enhance their productions. Consumers turn to Magic Bullet to add style to their home movies and feature film artists add a sense of place, as seen in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

About Stu Maschwitz Stu Maschwitz is a director, author, and champion of what has become known as the "DV Rebel" school of filmmaking, which suggests that high production value can be achieved at any budget level. Hailed by Shoot Magazine as one of the "Ten Commercial Directors To Watch," Maschwitz quickly gained a reputation for tackling extraordinarily complex visual challenges while injecting his signature kinetic style. An innovator in filmmaking technology, Maschwitz is the creator of the revolutionary Magic Bullet software-which gives inexpensive digital video the lush look of film.

About Red Giant Software Red Giant Software offers a vast range of visual effects plug-ins, with over 30 packages designed for Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro, Apple Final Cut Pro, Motion, and Avid. The product line features industry-leading effects for designing realistic fire, rain, and water; adding popular looks; and creating perfect keys. Red Giant effects have enhanced feature films such as Angels & Demons, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Mummy 3, and Grindhouse, and added sparkle to cable and broadcast content from NBC Universal, Food Network, ESPN, Disney, CNN, Comedy Central, MTV, and TNT.

BCC15 New Filters, New 3D Objects, Exchange Keyframe Animation with Adobe After Effects

Marlborough MA - June 22, 2009 - Boris FX, the leading developer of integrated effects technology for video and film, announced that Boris Continuum Complete 6 AVX (BCC 6 AVX) for Avid editing and finishing systems is now available. BCC 6 AVX is based on Avid's AVX 2 plug-in architecture with support for Avid Media Composer, Avid NewsCutter and Avid Symphony. A special AVX 1 version of BCC 6 AVX for Avid DS will be released in the near future.

BCC 6 AVX adds nearly 200 plug-in filters to Avid editing and finishing systems. The new release features 15 new effects including Extruded Text, Extruded EPS, Layer Deformer, Cartoon Look, Lightning, and Swish Pan. In addition, BCC 6 AVX delivers unique workflow enhancements such as the ability to animate BCC filters in Adobe After Effects and transfer the animation to the Avid timeline - while preserving After Effects keyframes.

"BCC 6 AVX shows our strong commitment to Avid plug-in development. We are thrilled to bring OpenGL-accelerated 3D filters to Avid editors via Avid's AVX real-time plug-in architecture," commented Boris Yamnitsky, president and founder, Boris FX. "With BCC 6 AVX, Avid editors can edit extruded text, warp 2D layers in 3D space, and import and extrude EPS files within Avid's native editing interface - without needing to render in another application. In addition, for the first time, Avid editors can animate BCC filters in Adobe After Effects and transfer the animation to the Avid timeline while preserving After Effects keyframes."

New BCC 6 AVX Feature Highlights

  • 15 New Filters range from realistic 3D vector graphics extrusions to painting and image restoration. The new 3D Objects category includes Extruded Text, Extruded EPS, Extruded Spline, Type-On Text, and Layer Deformer. New image restoration filters include DV Fixer, Smooth Tone, and Pixel Fixer. New image painting filters consist of Charcoal Sketch, Pencil Sketch, Water Color, and Cartoon Look. New OpenGL filters include Lightning and Tile Mosaic. A new Swish Pan transition filter is also included.

    • BCC Extruded Text - OpenGL-accelerated 3D text generator with built-in 3D shatters and a warp deformer. Multiple 3D materials can be created from external image files featuring texture and bump maps as well as reflections. Each material can be individually saved as a preset and applied to the front, back, bevel, or extrusion surface of the text object. The text object can be further deformed and animated with a number of innovative deformers such as Bend, Taper, Twist, Shatter, Ripple, Pulse, or Curl.
    • BCC Extruded EPS - provides an easy way to import and extrude Adobe Illustrator layered vector logos and graphics in Avid editing and finishing systems.BCC Type-On Text - 3D extruded text can be animated in true 3D space in a type-on or type-off fashion with each letter precisely interacting with the rest of the text in 3D. All 3D properties of the BCC Extruded Text filter are available in the Type-On effect.BCC Extruded Spline - based on built-in primitives such as a medallion or heart. Create 3D extruded objects fully-modeled with bevels and spline-based extrusion profiles.BCC Layer Deformer - warp any 2D layer in 3D space with built-in 3D shatters and bend deformers. Create 3D shapes such as fully or partially wrapped spheres and cylinders with multiple layers mapped onto the surfaces.BCC Pixel Fixer - remove bad pixels resulting from a faulty digital camera sensor or dust on a camera lens. Up to 10 bad spots can be repaired with a single filter application - without any degradation of image quality or sharpness.BCC DV Fixer - soften or remove diagonal stair-step lines (aka jaggies) from a clip captured with a lower-quality camera. Repair compression artifacts without degrading image sharpness or quality.
BCC Smooth Tone - smoothes or softens an image while preserving detail contrast, making skin tones silky-smooth without loss of sharpness in the image. A great tool for working with "talking heads" and on-camera interview footage.BCC Swish Pan - simulates panning a camera very quickly in a 180 degree arc, creating the look of a fast blur between outgoing and incoming clips.BCC Charcoal Sketch - simulates the painterly look of an image that was created using charcoals.BCC Pencil Sketch - simulates the look of a hand-drawn pencil-sketched image.BCC Water Color - simulates the wash look of a watercolor painting.BCC Cartoon Look - simulates a rotoscope toon-animation look.BCC Tile Mosaic - simulates the look of hand-cut opaque tiles.BCC Lightning - generates simulated lightning bolts and plasma arcs.
  • Significant Performance Gains. Every filter is either OpenGL-based or multiprocessor-accelerated for ultimate rendering speed on modern computing and graphics platforms.Custom Animated Presets. This unique feature lets users save and re-use every parameter animation in every BCC filter - even across host applications and platforms. For the first time, users may animate BCC filters in Adobe After Effects and transfer the animation to the Avid timeline while preserving After Effects keyframes.
BCC 6 AVX includes hundreds of factory-installed animated presets. Animated presets are now saved in industry-standard XML format and can be edited by any XML-compliant text editor.Single-Click Custom Preset Navigation Tool lets users easily browse presets without opening a pop-up window. Presets are immediately applied and the host preview window is automatically updated to reflect the selected preset.Built-In Motion Tracker Enhancements are found in almost every filter. Users may now save motion tracker data from one filter and load the saved data in another filter.

Luxology Launches modo 401 with New Rendering and Animation Features

modo 401Innovative New Workflows Leverage Deep Functionality Improvements in the Fourth Major Release of modo

San Mateo, Calif. - June 19, 2009 - The rapid evolution of modo took another leap today as Luxology® LLC announced the immediate availability of its latest 3D content creation software, modo 401. With a focus on rendering and animation enhancements, modo® 401 delivers a wealth of new features and innovative workflows, which enable users to easily model on top of existing geometry, see changes in their scene immediately from the radically improved Preview renderer and efficiently re-use assets throughout the content creation process. These new features benefit customers in a broad array of disciplines such as architectural visualization, product design, game development and advertising image production.

"modo 401 continues our emphasis on making the 3D creative process as fluid as possible for designers and artists,"
said Brad Peebler, president of Luxology. "This new version is packed with improvements and is clearly our biggest upgrade of modo to date."

Rendering enhancements include caustics, dispersion, blurry refraction, volumetric lighting and Pixar-patented deep shadows. The new Instance Replicators allow dense amounts of surface detail like welds, rivets, trees and barnacles to be rendered with trillion polygon detail. Light linking and support for multiple environments provides precise control over how each part of a scene is individually lit. modo 401 also supports stereoscopic rendering and will render on up to 32 cores across a network of 50 workstations.

Animation improvements in modo 401 include inverse kinematics, dynamic parenting, channel constraints and modifiers. modo’s new animation capabilities facilitate the creation of sophisticated rigs in modo 401 that can be driven with a few simple inputs. For example, a tank model can be rigged to track and turn accurately across undulating terrain while maintaining realistic tread and wheel movement. Pre-built animation assemblies provided with modo 401 allow users to apply animation to their models automatically.

Optimized artist workflows are another essential element of modo 401. Artist feedback during modeling and other operations is enriched with a deeply threaded Preview renderer that boasts extremely rapid updates and progressive rendering capability. modo 401 boosts artist productivity by facilitating the re-use of assets throughout the content creation process. modo 401 ships with over 1,500 pre-built assets including profile curves, realistic surface finishes, fur presets, 3D props, vegetation, animated rigs and professionally designed lighting environments that light a scene in two mouse clicks.

"These pre-built assets in modo offer us a way to get to final quality more quickly," said Gary Fitzgerald of DesignworksUSA. "modo also allows us to capture and re-use our own design assets for greater efficiency."

modo 401 boasts a wide array of other productivity enhancing improvements, including:
  • Expanded modeling toolset: Most modeling tools in modo now support per vertex collision with geometry. When paired with modo’s new ability to load static meshes that have a lower memory footprint, users can now leverage modo to retopologize even the densest meshes into production ready assets. In addition, new Profile Presets simplify the modeling of edge-based details like crown molding or complex bevels.
  • More realistic materials: The new Fur material enables a multitude of material appearances from hair, bristles and fur to water droplets, string, grass and tinsel. Carbon fiber and highly glossy clear coat surfaces lend realism to consumer product visualizations
  • Data import and export: modo 401 is now even better equipped to read and write data that can be exchanged with other 2D and 3D applications. File exchange improvements include COLLADA, FBX, 3DM and a new SolidWorks 2009 file importer for Windows.

Pricing and Availability
Luxology modo 401 is available immediately for the new suggested retail price of USD $995. Upgrades from any existing version of modo remain at $395. modo 401 runs on Mac and PC platforms, and is newly available for 64 bit Windows. modo 401 is sold and supported by a network of authorized Luxology resellers around the globe.

CINEMA 4D Wins "Best Animation and 3D Product 2009" from Macworld (UK)

maxonMAXON Computer, developers of professional 3D modeling, painting, animation and rendering solutions, is excited to announce that its cornerstone application, CINEMA 4D, garnered the "Best Animation and 3D Product" award at the Macworld (UK) Awards; honoring the finest products of the past 12 months. This is the third award win in recent years for CINEMA 4D from the editorial team and readership at Macworld UK that stated, "Cinema 4D 11 is a brilliant upgrade, we doubt that there's an easier-to-use, better-integrated and feature-rich 3D toolset out there." [Please see press release issued from MAXON's UK office, below]

"Since MAXON's inception 20 years ago, CINEMA 4D, has been acclaimed for its advanced capabilities and has won numerous awards and accolades. We're extremely proud that the venerable Macworld (UK) editorial team and readership has again awarded CINEMA 4D with its 'Best Animation and 3D Product 2009,'" said Paul Babb, president, MAXON US. "MAXON remains committed to delivering technical achievements - many of them 3D application "firsts" - to the Mac platform to ensure 3D artists are equipped with the best possible toolset regardless of their platform choice."

Most notably, MAXON offered the first 3D application to be released for Mac OS X and to ship with 64-bit support, and is typically the first 3D software developer to be compliant with new releases. The company also was first to offer multiprocessing on a Mac, even before the Mac OS offered multiprocessing, and CINEMA 4D offers near-linear rendering performance on a multiprocessor Mac. In 2000 MAXON entered into a partnership with Apple and a free version of version of CINEMA 4D was bundled with Apple's Final Cut Pro (and the following three versions of the software) which garnered the company more than 10,000 new users and installations in over 5,000 schools that year. MAXON was again first to offer multi-pass rendering directly to Final Cut Pro and Motion.

Electric Rain Releases Swift 3D v6.0 for Windows and Macintosh

swift 3dFlagship 3D animation software for Adobe Flash adds powerful modeling and texturing tools, improved lighting and scene development capabilities and huge performance increases

Learn More/Purchase in our Store | Upgrade from Previous Versions | Free Trial (Available Soon.)

Boulder, CO - June 8, 2009 - Today Electric Rain presented Adobe Flash designers with a new version of its popular Swift 3D software. Swift 3D version 6.0 adds exciting capabilities to enhance its already robust feature set, enabling 3D designers of all levels to introduce 3D to their projects with minimal effort and no limitations. With the addition of Boolean operations, advanced texturing and bump mapping, PaperVision3D v2.0 export, 5x increases in rendering speed, and support for cloning and arrays, there is something for everyone in this release.

Electric Rain’s intuitive and easy-to-use Swift 3D is already the de-facto application for designers exporting vector and raster-based 3D animations to Adobe Flash, as well as to video and common vector-based formats, such as Adobe Illustrator and EPS. Initially a pioneer in the 3D-to-vector world, Swift 3D is now accepted as a highly-capable and versatile 3D authoring application, while maintaining its reputation as the marquee tool for producing vector-based 3D content for Flash.

"The feature set we’re releasing with V6 brings Swift 3D into line with much more expensive 3D tools on the market," said Mike Soucie, CEO of Electric Rain. "And it does so without sacrificing the approachability designers have grown to appreciate with our applications. V6 builds upon the legacy of the Swift 3D product line and we have gone to great lengths to continue to add powerful modeling, texturing and export capabilities that rivals the power found in high-end 3D applications while maintaining a designer-friendly workflow. Besides that, Swift 3D is rendering really fast now!"

The most anticipated features of Swift 3D 6.0 are:
  • Boolean Operations with non-destructive union, intersection and subtraction options
  • Up to 5 times faster rendering and multi-processor support with raster export
  • PaperVision3D v2.0 export for real-time 3D object display in Flash
  • Clone and array tools for easy multi-object editing and rich scene development
  • Bump map material support and advanced texture mapping for maximum 3D realism
  • Background tracing images and multi-path support within Extrusion and Lathe Editors
  • Advanced lighting with soft shadow rendering and improved viewport camera controls
While useful features continue to augment Swift 3D’s quick-and-easy 3D production environment, rendering performance improves significantly with this release. The EMO ray tracer renderer powering Swift 3D’s image and video export has been drastically improved to the tune of a five-fold increase in rendering speeds. V6 also adds support for utilizing today’s multi-processor machines, and with the addition soft shadow rendering Swift 3D is clearly challenging the more expensive 3D video production applications, minus the premium price. Swift 3D v6.0 continues to offer the widest range of vector rendering options, with a multitude of fill and outline choices, artistic pen styles and built-in optimization tools.

Swift 3D v6.0 for Windows and Macintosh is now available now for $249.00 USD. Upgrades from previous versions start at $99.00.

Boris FX Adds Real-Time Performance to Boris Continuum Chroma Key

New Chroma Key Studio Filter for Apple Final Cut Pro, Motion, and Final Cut Express

BCC6Marlborough MA - June 16, 2009 - Boris FX, the leading developer of integrated effects technology for video and film, announced that the Boris Continuum Chroma Key Unit now includes a Chroma Key Studio filter for real-time previews and rendering in Apple Final Cut Pro, Motion, and Final Cut Express.

Chroma Key Studio builds on the strength of Boris Continuum Complete's keying and compositing tools with features such as a best-of-breed chroma key process, spill suppression, matte choker, and a light wrap compositing step. All four tools are combined in one, easy-to-use filter; users do not need to stack multiple filters to pre and post process video.

In addition to Chroma Key Studio, the Boris Continuum Chroma Key Unit includes the following filters for Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro in addition to Apple Pro Video Applications:

  • BCC Chroma Key for compositing camera footage shot using a blue, green, or orange screen as a backdrop over a new background video or a still image from a separate file. The Chroma Key filter includes a variety of Spill Suppression parameters.
  • BCC Matte Choker for tweaking the blur, choke, and softening along the edges of a key.
  • BCC Light Wrap to reflect the background image around the edges of a foreground image to form a border. This creates a more convincing composite by making it appear as if the images were shot in the same environment.
  • BCC Match Grain for sampling the grain from the background and applying it to the foreground, generating the appearance that the clips were shot on the same camera.
  • BCC Color Match for sampling the highlight, midtone, and shadow regions in the foreground and background images and blending some of the background color and luma values into the foreground, contributing to a seamless composite.

Pricing and Availability

Boris Continuum Chroma Key is immediately available through the Boris FX worldwide reseller channel and direct from the Boris FX web site at www.borisfx.com for an MSRP of $299 USD. Customers who purchase the Boris Continuum Chroma Key Unit or any other Boris Continuum Unit may credit the price of the Unit towards the full Boris Continuum Complete plug-in suite.

Existing Boris Continuum Chroma Key Unit customers may download the Chroma Key Studio filter as a free update from the Boris FX web site at www.borisfx.com.

We are currently having a sale on the Red Giant Pro Keying Bundle, which includes Primatte Keyer Pro and Key Correct Pro. It's an incredible deal at 50% off because they are such great tools. Primatte Keyer is designed for designers not programmers so it is very visual. There are big buttons to click and you can drag around your mouse to select the colors you want to key out and to adjust your matte, as opposed to tweaking sliders. Key Correct includes tools like Smooth Screen, which evens out your greenscreen, making your foreground easier to key, without worsening spill. Great tools! The sale is over on June 15, next Monday.

Review: Digieffects' Damage: You Have Great Looking Video, They Can Fix That

BlogCritics reviews Digieffects Damage.

For those shooting drama and want to make it obvious that the material being viewed is on a monitor or TV ("Sir, we’ve just recovered this videotape of the rescue mission to the Amazon whose flight crashed in 1992!" "Put it in the VCR now, sergeant!") Damage is an excellent plug-in. Additionally, for those who need to insert newly shot footage into old video, running those new shots through Damage could help them blend much more easily. And for those who wish to spice up their transitions, it could be combined with the usual fades, wipes, and dissolves, to simulate a TV being switched on or off.

The video is a step-by-step walk-thru and runs about 45 minutes. In this video, he used section markers at the lower left corner to help guide you through it.

Ultimatte RT for FCP/Motion & Ultimatte RT/AdvantEdge Bundle - USB License

Ultimatte Logo

Check out the new Ultimatte RT for FCP/Motion and the Ultimatte RT/AdvantEdge Bundle - USB License are now available!

If you already own AdvantEdge, you can upgrade your dongle for it here.

Ultimatte RT is a new real-time plug-in for FCP and Motion and is a GPU-accelerated version of the AdvantEdge plug-in, with a much simpler interface. The Ultimatte RT plugin uses the FxPlug capabilities of Apple Final Cut Pro and Apple Motion and uses the same Ultimatte-patented algorithms as the AdvantEdge software.

I thought the FAQ posed an interesting question. Since I've written the book on greenscreen and keying, this is a question I get ALL the time.

Q. Why not use the chroma-key software including with my editing application?

A. You can! Unfortunately, the composited output will simply not offer the fine details that your blue or green screen footage can offer. Ultimatte AdvantEdge almost always surprises users when compared side-to-side with chroma-key software. Fine hair detail, translucent glass, smoke, water, semi-transparent fabric, and shadows (seen in the image below) are only a few of the ways that Ultimatte AdvantEdge will shine when compared to chroma-key software.

Take a look at the following example, which is a single frame from a standard definition production from Virtualsets.com. It shows the amazing level of detail that can be achieved with subtle shadows on a good, but certainly not great blue screen.

Find more videos like this on MyToolfarm

As you can see, there is a fairly wide range of blue colors in the frame. At the back of the blue screen, it is unevenly lit and gets dark. Downstage (toward the bottom of the frame), the lights for the talent are making the blue floor much brighter. The places to focus on the subtle shadows are near the floor and under the chairs.

As you mouse-over the image, notice how the subtle shadows seen on the blue screen remain in the final composite. Even those super-dark areas under the chairs composite well. Even the most minimal shadows that are cast by the screen-right chair at the bottom of the frame come through on the final composite. These are the details that the Ultimatte AdvantEdge plug-in will allow you to achieve in your blue and green screen work.

Interview: A Conversation with Garcia Freundt

modernage Garcia Freundt

On the side I run a music blog and I was contacted about the band Modernage. The music is fantastic, with sort of a Joy Division feel, but with much more warmth and melody. What really struck me, though, was the cool video. I had recently been complaining about how videos nowadays just seem like a way to market a band and there's a lack of art in a lot of music videos. The music video for the song Creatures uses stop motion with wired up stuffed toys. What is also great about Creatures is that the video was created by a band member. I talk with the multi-talented Garcia Freundt of Modernage, musician and visual effects artist.

A world with real clouds that have substance and cast shadows, that influence and interact with the other aspects of your scene. This is not just a backdrop picture of a sky. Best of all, you can modify every aspect of it!
