Smart Recall - Another industry breakthrough from SmartSound! Smart Recall makes it incredibly easy to make quick changes to the length, arrangement and instrument mix of SmartSound .WAV and .AIF music files. This capability is impossible with any other music library solution...yet another reason to make SmartSound your first choice for awesome royalty-free music.

Maestro Tempo Display -Not only will the Maestro help you quickly find the best track to drive your visuals, but it will also tell you the basic editing lengths to keep your visuals in sync with the beat of the music

SmartSound Sonicfire Pro 4.5 - Network Edition includes:

Smart Recall - Get Smart Recall and all features included with Standard Edition.

Network Support - Connect all editors on your network to a centralized music library and experience the most productive and creative music library solution.

Express Track - The new Express Track feature that comes with Sonicfire Pro 4.5 Network Edition is a powerful search engine that includes the power of SmartSound customization for mind-blowing music results.

Pick your own length - Instead of the limited set of broadcast lengths offered by the typical library, Express Track lets you specify any length you need.

Select a variation - Express Track always gives you a list of musical arrangements that fit within the length you've specified.

"Fotomation" with Speaking Pictures

Michael Coleman, product manager for Adobe, gives a nice shout out to my pal, Jerome Olivier, and his Fotomation technique that he has perfected in his film Moving Pages.

What makes this piece particularly unique and visually stunning is that the story is created entirely with 40,000 pictures from a digital camera. The still images were processed and animated using Adobe After Effects and Adobe Photoshop using a technique the director calls "fotomation". To get a glimpse of the creative process behind Missing Pages, check out Toolfarm's interview with Jerome Oliver last year.

RE:Vision Effects releases PV Feather for Adobe After Effects

PV Feather LogoRE:Vision Effects announces the immediate availability of PV Feather, a per-vertex feathering control plug-in for Adobe After Effects 6.5 and up. Users have been requesting better feathering control within After Effects for quite some time, and PV Feather now fills that void. PV Feather (the "PV" stands for "per vertex") performs feathering by using an inner mask for filling, and an outer mask for feather control. The distance between the inside and outside mask controls the amount of feather. PV Feather uses AE's built-in mask splines, so there there is no new spline interface to learn!

Note: PV Feather is now included in the Re:Vision Effects Effections Plus bundle with no price change!

  • 8, 16 bit per channel and floating point image support
  • Variable feathering controlled by inner and outer masks
  • Ability to move in tandem the corresponding control points of the inner and outer masks
  • AE's own mask primitives are used, so there is no new spline or keyframing interface to learn
  • Automatic offsetting of masks
  • Ability to offset only selected mask points
  • Uses AE's motion blur shutter and angle settings
  • Option to use ReelSmart Motion Blur on matte produced (instead of AE's multiple time sampling method)

Matt Silverman of Phoenix Editorial | Designs says "The built-in masking tools inside Adobe After Effects have always been one of its few shortcomings. PV Feather is a major breakthrough and allows us to do complex per-vertex feathering directly inside After Effects instead of having to jump into other compositors or dedicated rotoscoping applications. Like other RE:Vision Effects plug-ins, PV Feather is now an indispensable tool in our toolbox."

Rick Gerard of Gerard Productions says "Wow, we've needed something like this for a long time. PV Feather has made my life much easier."

Curtis Sponslor of AniMill says, "Though After Effects has a powerful and usable masking toolset, I always need to utilize multiple masks compounding upon one-another to isolate various elements. PV Feather instantly simplifies my work flow by reducing the number of masks I'm forced to apply. I can now add one master mask, easily manipulate its variable density falloff, and eliminate the usual cluster of subtraction masks I used to build. It's another Must Have from RE:Vision Effects."

PV Feather is priced at $69.95.

Render-only licenses are $13.99. Render-only licensing is for use with After Effects' render-only mechanisms (aerender and Watch Folder). Note that the PV Feather render-only licenses only work on projects written with a full license, so you must have at least one full license for the render-only licenses to be valid.

Volume pricing available.

  • Fluid 3D Painting: Painting is now threaded for superior performance; paint strokes can seamlessly be applied across multiple images and even onto multiple UV maps.
  • “Unleashed” Rendering:The modo renderer now offers a new built-in capability for network rendering (cross platform) of high-resolution stills and animation sequences.

DMN Newswire--2007-5-15-- San Francisco, CA (May 15, 2007) - Phoenix Editorial & Designs has produced a 90-second promotional film launching Adobe Creative Suite 3 (CS3). The film introduces the product's new "Creative License" marketing campaign, tagline, logo, packaging and identity. The film debuted at the official CS3 launch event in New York City during a presentation by Adobe CEO Bruce Chizen, and has been showcased on the Adobe web site homepage and at several live events to promote the new software suite.

Phoenix Editorial & Designs Creative Director Matt Silverman based the film off the new "Creative License" print campaign developed by Adobe's advertising agency Goodby, Silverstein & Partners. Comprising three "chapters" for print, web and video, which focus respectively on Adobe's Design Premium Collection, Web Premium Collection and Production Premium Collection, the film features abstract and artful scenarios in which something ordinary is made extraordinary through the use of Adobe's tools.

Said Matt Silverman, Creative Director, Phoenix Editorial & Designs, "We were given a great deal of creative liberty to interpret the feature benefits of Creative Suite 3, Adobe's new collection of graphic design and video editing applications, and we had a lot of fun creating a visually compelling journey through the different collections. We also got the opportunity to incorporate some of the product's new features into the making of our film, like the cool Puppet Tool in After Effects."

The "print" chapter takes the audience through a visual journey from an ordinary letter A to an ornate letter A. Based off of custom typography from design-legend Neville Brody, the A's transformation is accented by pop art ink drippings and paint splats, halftones and collage-like layers. The "web" chapter follows a web site layout from napkin sketch to simple flowchart, before moving on to complicated, maze-like 3D flowcharts populating an entire world. In the "video" chapter, 3D elements such as movie screens, filmstrips, musical staffs, broadcasting towers and foliage, along with still illustrations and wildlife footage, show the dynamic effects available to filmmakers and motion graphics artists in CS3. The film ends with a shot of the Adobe CS3 Master Collection, which for the first time, allows customers to get all the Adobe tools in one product, and the "Creative License" logo and tagline, "Take as much as you want."

To create the films, Phoenix used Mac G5's dual and quad processor machines running Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign, Autodesk Maya, and Zaxwerks ProModeler.

After Effects Training

Ko Maruyama has posted a blog entry at Ninja Crayon about the training that is available for After Effects and happens to mention three of our Forum Experts, Harry J. Frank, John Dickinson and Dean Velez.

Harry J. FrankHarry's training is available just this week and to say it's selling well would be an understatement! After Effects Expressions hits a niche where there is really not a lot of training and Harry's training is fun to watch and easy to absorb. It's downloadable immediately and is affordable at just $29 for 60 minutes of Expressions training. It is designed for the designer, not the programmer, and it will take your Expressiophobia away.

John DickinsonJohn Dickinson's Creative Background Design Series has also been very popular. John currently has six modules in his series and he uses some innovative techniques and explains several shortcuts that will help your workflow. John's training is just $5 a pop and great for the beginner or seasoned veteran.

Dean VelezDean Velez puts out training through his company, The Anvel. His training, The Anvel Industry Training for AE is incredible. I showed my class some of the training last semester and they were completely into it. People actually stuck around until the end of class instead of bagging class after an hour ;-)

Just yesterday, Dean posted the following to our Expert Forum:

Hello Video, Film and Web guys and gals,

The Anvel has just posted 29 new royalty free and fully customizable After Effects 7.0 Professional projects ready for download.

The Projects all deal with Text and adding effects to text. They cover the letters A-Z ( Aura, Balls, Cosmic, Destroy, Electric, Extrude, Fire, Glimmer, Hose, Ice, Join, Killer, Laser, Magnify, Nature, Odor, Paint, Quartz, Road, Strange, Tear, Universe, Vile, Web, Wind, X-Ray, Yank, Zoom )

Some are render prerender when you can.

Hope you enjoy them! and drop me a line to let me know which one is your favorite...mine is Killer.

Dean is always posting awesome free stuff every month or two, so you'd be doing yourself a big service to go to our forum and hang out. Ask some questions while you're there and guys like Harry and John will answer your questions.

Ko also mentions Aharon Rabinowitz's quality training. Aharon runs After Effects NY user group, which met last night and Toolfarm gave away Harry's new training at the meeting. I hear the meeting was great, with Curious Pictures showing their Disney Channel program, Little Einsteins ("Come on! Wave your arms to make our ship fly faster!" and so you can hear some Vivaldi... oh, I'm sure you've seen it!)
