Press Release

NAB Post Plus 2005, New York, New York (PRWEB) November 16, 2005 -- Boris FX, the leading developer of integrated effects technology for video and film production, today announced the availability of version 4.0 of Boris Continuum Complete (BCC). BCC is a comprehensive suite of native filters and transitions for Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere Pro, Apple Final Cut Pro, Apple Motion, Autodesk combustion, Eyeon Fusion and Boris Red systems.

Not just a filter suite, Continuum Complete extends the capabilities of NLE and compositing workstations with over 160 effects. With an intuitive native host interface and support for multi-processor and OpenGL acceleration, users can quickly create sophisticated multi-layer composites with robust tools for keying, lighting, color and even temporal effects.

"BCC 4.0 further leverages the technologies and imaging processing algorithms of Boris Red and Blue, our flagship 3D and compositing solutions," said Boris FX founder and president Boris Yamnitsky. "With updated host support and significant new features, users continue to benefit from our unsurpassed host integration, including more accurate motion tracking."

Among the new features of version 4 is the Motion Key filter that isolates and removes moving foreground objects based on motion vector field of the source footage. This filter, along with the new Optical Stabilizer, continues the Optical Flow development first introduced in the version 3 Optical Flow and Motion Blur filters. Also new is the OGL-based Image Shatter, which takes advantage of modern graphics cards to accelerate 3D rendering.

New Features include:

  • Improved Motion Tracker provides increased accuracy with four-point tracking.
  • New filters include Color Match, Halftone, Median, Motion Key, Corner Pin Tracker, Optical Stabilizer and an OpenGL-based 3D Extruded Image Shatter.
  • Updated host support includes Apple Final Cut Pro 5, Apple Motion 2.01, Autodesk Combustion 4, and Eyeon Fusion version 5; Adobe After Effects version 7.0 will be supported once it is released.
  • Support for Macintosh OS X Tiger.
  • New Motion Key technology removes moving foreground objects based on motion estimation.
  • Hundreds of new presets are included.
  • Settings remain fully compatible with the version 3.0 release.
  • Easy-to-use licensing includes Electronic Software Download (ESD) and a 14-day trial version.

BCC filters and transitions apply and animate directly in the native host interface. More than 160 sophisticated filters include Lens Flare, Glint, Glare, DeGrain, Match Grain, DeNoise, DeInterlace, Optical Flow, Motion Blur, Glow, Wire Remover, and Witness Protection. Continuum Complete offers powerful integration features including built-in motion tracking and the unique PixelChooser technology that creates region- or channel-based masks. Hundreds of presets and integrated online help provide precise effects creation with a minimal learning curve.

Continuum Complete 4.0 provides a powerful and complimentary feature set for the host systems. Whenever possible, custom integration provides specific benefits to each host. For example, in Apple Final Cut Pro, you can apply BCC as a generator, filter or transition; static generators play in real time on supported systems. The Adobe After Effects production bundle and Autodesk Combustion both support 16-bit-per-channel media. After Effects users can use AE masks within the PixelChooser masking tool. A single license of BCC can be installed into all supported hosts on a system.

Boris Continuum Complete version 4 and other Boris FX solutions will be demonstrated at the NAB Post+ Production Show, which takes place November 15-17 at the Javits Convention Center in New York, New York. Users who visit Boris FX at booth 204 are eligible to enter to win a copy of BCC.

Press Release

Integrated visual effects complement existing Avid offerings

NAB Post Plus 2005, New York, New York (Booth 204) - Boris FX, the leading developer of integrated effects technology for video and film production, today announced the availability of a new version of Boris Final Effects Complete AVX (FEC AVX). FEC AVX is a collection of native plug-in filters and transitions that streamline workflow for Avid editors. More than 100 sophisticated effects animate directly in the Avid Effect Editor window.

"Final Effects Complete is a time-proven collection of visual effects that will increase the production value of any video or film project," said Boris FX founder and president Boris Yamnitsky. "FEC AVX's organic effects are an ideal companion to our other integrated solutions for Avid users."

One of the first Adobe After Effects plug-in packages, Version 4.0 now supports all Avid systems running on the AVX 1.0 architecture, including Avid DS systems. Avid Visual Extensions (AVX) is a plug-in architecture that dynamically extends the effects supported by Avid systems. Formerly known as ICEfx, these ICE hardware-accelerated effects are now available as a software-only solution.* The initial release is for Windows only. A future release will add Macintosh support.

The simplicity of the filters, combined with the native Avid interface, reduces the learning curve to virtually zero. Most filters feature less than a dozen parameters; only a few simple adjustments are required to create totally unique organic effects. Quickly generate full-featured two-dimensional and three-dimensional animations including ball action, explosions, distortions, jet trails, and hair. FEC AVX also delivers a complete range of unique auto-animating transitions. Ranging from graceful blurs to radical warps, FEC AVX lets you easily create dramatic effects with minimal adjustment.

Version 4.0 highlights include:
- More than 100 easy-to-use organic visual effects.
- The easy-to-use licensing includes Electronic Software Download (ESD) and a 14-day trial version.
- Dozens of auto-animating transition effects streamline workflow.
- Kaleida, Griddler, VideoFragment and Tiler easily create complex switcher-style effects.
- Dual-input effects let you create reflections, flow maps and bump maps.
- Save parameters, including keyframe animation, to an Avid bin to reuse as templates.
- An online help system is integrated into each filter.

* FEC AVX is not compatible with the older ICE versions that ran on the AVX architecture. FEC AVX is available bundled with Boris Continuum Complete AVX (BCC AVX). BCC AVX is a comprehensive suite of native plug-in filters and transitions for Avid systems. More than 170 filters extend the visual effects capabilities of Avid NLEs. BCC AVX offers powerful integration features including built-in motion tracking and the unique PixelChooser, which creates channel or region-based masks. Hundreds of presets and integrated online help provide fast and precise effects creation with a minimal learning curve. With multi-processor and OpenGL acceleration, BCC AVX provides a powerful and complimentary feature set to Avid nonlinear editing systems.

Final Effects Complete AVX will debut at the NAB Post+ Production Show, which takes place November 15-17 at the Javits Convention Center in New York, New York. Users who visit Boris FX at booth 204 are eligible to win a copy of BCC or FEC AVX for Avid Xpress systems. As part of the NAB Post+ Production Show, FEC AVX will be shown at the New York Avid User Group meeting.

Chicago Motion Graphics Festival

chicago motion graphics festivalToolfarm is an official sponsor of the Chicago Motion Graphics Festival, the premiere Midwestern event catering to 3D and compositing effects, held in January 2006. This year's screening venues will include Optimus, Digital Kitchen, Swell, and Daily Planet.

There's a call for entries with a deadline of December 1, 2005. The entry fee is only $15, so it's inexpensive enough for even poor college students.

Want to meet me? During the first two days the CMGF will conduct free training sessions at the North Michigan Ave. Apple Store. I'll be a presenter. Topics will include animation, compositing, DVD creation, online streaming, and file management. I'll have more details in the future, but check out the Chicago Motion Graphics site in the meantime.

So, please support Midwest film makers! There's a strong film community in the Midwest (Michigan has just passed some legislation for incentives for film makers, so come on over!)

Noise Industries Factory Tools demos are up!

noise industriesNoise Industries Factory Tools are available on our demos page. If you run Avid in Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger, this plug-in package is amazing.

The terminology is a bit complex to my little brain, so I spoke with Niclas Bahn from Noise Industries last week and had him explain it to me.... In short sentences.

Like to know why this plug-in will blow your mind?

Why is this plug-in package so interesting?

  1. It runs on the new video processing architecture in Tiger so it is fast! Things like blurs and color corrections, which you can find comparable versions in other plug-ins, will be three times faster. At least.
  2. The product is infinitely expandable. The number of included ffects is high, plus there are more freebies on the site. These free effects are meant to educate customers on how to expand the program and make your own effects.
  3. You can build your own plug-ins and make them run in your Avid. In addition, you can share them through the Noise Industries website or even sell them, if they're really good.

The effects are built in a node-based compositor in the Developer Tools of Tiger called Quartz Composer. It allows you to make use of the new video processing architecture. The results can be used with their tool can be converted, with the help of Factory Tools, into AVX plug-ins. (Quartzcompositions.com is a community around this node-based compositor. )

Third-party developers are sitting down and creating effect libraries too. Actually, their "fourth-party developers", come to think of it. Noise Industries is the third-party developer.

Factory Tools is bundled with AVX Pro and MC Adrenaline Tiger compatible version.
